Blepharoplasty: a rested gaze, without overdoing it
"You look tired." How many times have you heard it while feeling perfectly fine? Often it is not about sleep: it is the eyelid. And the good news is that it is corrected in a simple, natural way.
Blepharoplasty is the surgery that rejuvenates the gaze by acting on the upper and/or lower eyelids. The goal is not to change the eyes: it is to free them from excess skin and bags that weigh down the expression.
Who it is really for
It is indicated when the following appear:
- excess skin on the upper eyelid, which "falls" over the eye;
- bags under the eyes that give a tired look;
- a gaze that looks sad or aged even when the rest of the face is still fresh.
Not just aesthetics: sometimes you see better
When the upper-eyelid skin is so abundant that it reduces the field of vision, blepharoplasty also has a functional value: many patients say they see better, especially upwards. Aesthetics and function, together again.
Is it invasive? And how long is recovery?
It is a minimally invasive procedure, often under local anaesthesia. The incisions follow the natural folds of the eyelid, so the scars become practically invisible. In general:
- the stitches are removed after about a week;
- swelling and bruising ease in 1 to 2 weeks;
- the gaze refines and "settles" in the following weeks.
The keyword: naturalness
The risk of a "pulled" or startled eye comes from excess. My approach is conservative: remove just enough, never a millimetre too much. You must look like yourself, simply more rested. The starting point, as always, is a consultation to assess skin, muscle and proportions.
