Lip filler: how to keep it natural (and how long it lasts)
The beauty of a well-done lip filler? No one should notice it. They should just think you have a lovely smile. Here is how it is achieved, and why "more" does not mean "better".
Lips have become the most requested aesthetic treatment, but also the one with the most bad examples around. The difference between an elegant result and the "duck lips" effect is not the product: it is how and how much is used.
Natural = proportion, not quantity
Filler uses hyaluronic acid, a substance already present in our body. The goal is not to "inflate", but to:
- hydrate and give plumpness to thin or dehydrated lips;
- define the border and the Cupid's bow;
- rebalance small asymmetries between upper and lower.
The secret is respecting the proportions of your face. A little product, well distributed, does more than a lot of product placed badly.
Does it dissolve? Is it reversible?
Yes to both. Hyaluronic acid is gradually reabsorbed, usually within 6 to 12 months. And if the result does not convince you or you want to go back, it is reversible: there is an enzyme that dissolves it. It is one of the reasons it is such a safe treatment.
Does it hurt?
The discomfort is limited. We use an anaesthetic cream and fillers already blended with lidocaine. In the following hours a slight swelling may appear, completely normal, which settles in a few days revealing the real result.
My approach
I prefer a gradual approach: better to add in a second session than to overdo the first. Your lips must stay yours, simply in their best version. If you are unsure, we talk it through at a consultation and build the result together, step by step.
