Rhinoplasty or nose filler: which is right for you?

Same goal, a more harmonious nose, but two very different roads. One lasts an hour, the other lasts forever. Understanding which is right for you is simpler than it seems.

It is one of the first questions I am asked at a consultation: "Doctor, is a little injection enough, or do I need surgery?". The answer depends on what you want to change. Let's look at it clearly.

Nose filler: a quick touch-up, no scalpel

Nose filler uses hyaluronic acid to "fill", not to remove. In a few minutes I can:

  • fill a small bump, making the bridge straighter;
  • slightly lift a drooping tip;
  • correct small asymmetries or irregularities.

It is immediate, with no downtime, and it is reversible. But it has a precise limit: it can only add volume. It cannot make a nose smaller.

Rhinoplasty: it truly changes the structure

Rhinoplasty (or septorhinoplasty, when it also involves the septum) works on bone and cartilage. It is the only way to:

  • reduce the size of the nose or the bump;
  • narrow and define the tip;
  • improve breathing by correcting the septum.

The result is permanent and tailor-made. In exchange it requires surgery and a recovery period.

The simple rule

The summary I use with my patients is this: if you need to add, filler may be enough; if you need to remove or breathe better, you need rhinoplasty.

Sometimes filler is also a great "rehearsal": it lets you see the effect of certain changes before deciding on surgery. Which one is right for your nose, though, can only truly be understood at a consultation, looking at proportions, skin and goals together.
