Rhinoplasty recovery time

Rhinoplasty does not have a single "recovery time": it has phases. Understanding them helps you face the process calmly and with realistic expectations.

Your face becomes presentable much sooner than you think, but the nose keeps refining for months. Here is what happens, step by step.

First week, the cast

For the first days you wear a small splint (cast) protecting the nose, removed after about 7 days. This is the phase with swelling and, often, bruising around the eyes. You sleep with your head raised and apply ice as directed.

Second and third week, social life

Once the cast is off, bruising and visible swelling ease within 2 to 3 weeks. This is when most patients go back to work and social life. The nose still looks a little swollen, especially at the tip, but not noticeably to others.

One to six months, the refining

The residual swelling goes down gradually. The tip is the area that takes longest to define. Month after month the profile refines and the contours become sharper.

Six to twelve months, the final result

The result is considered final between 6 and 12 months, once the last swelling has fully resolved. This is when the shape of the nose is truly the final one.

When you can go back to sport

  • Light activity: after about 3 weeks.
  • Intense or contact sport: after 4 to 6 weeks, as advised.
  • Heavy glasses and direct sun exposure: to be managed carefully in the first weeks.

Everyone heals at their own pace: surgical technique, skin type and post-operative care make the difference. That is why the guidance is always personalised during your check-ups.
